Sunscreen, sunscreen, suncreen! One of my most favourite topics to talk about. Its often this time of year I have daily texts from people saying 'I've got burnt I didn't realise how hot it was today'... Its something that can be easily forgotten especially if you are being distracted by kids, hosting an outside event or working or just never really thought about applying it daily before.
Making a habit of adding it into your morning skincare routine is a must if you want to prevent damage and age well. Sun damage causes 80% of skin ageing. Using one all through the year is a must even through Winter.
So what exactly does the sun do to your skin?
You have UVB (the rays that burn your skin), which is the primary cause of skin cancer, and then you have UVA (the rays that age your skin), which can break down collagen and elastin causing the skin to sag, and bring up hyper pigmentation, commonly known as sun spots.
Although we’ve grown up knowing about the dangers of UVB rays, a lot of us are still unaware of the effects UVA can have on our skin. Like the fact that these rays can penetrate through glass, so if you’re indoors, but sitting by a window, you will still be affected by the sun’s rays that can age your skin.
I really do like to have some colour on my face especially through Summer, What can I do?
Protecting your skin wont stop you getting some colour, you will still get a little on your face it just wont rapidly burn and cause long term havoc. I always advise to add some tan drops into a moisturiser through the summer to give your skin a bronzed healthy glow without the damage.
